Community Service

MSM Feeds DC - 500 Sandwiches Made!

Many thanks to all the students and their parents who made time in their busy schedules to make a difference at the second annual MSM Feeds DC event.  All together, approximately 40 MSM students, siblings and friends made over 500 deli sandwiches that were donated to McKenna’s Wagon, Martha Table's volunteer-run mobile food service that provides hot evening meals and sandwiches to 250 homeless men and women across the city every night.  Thank you, Elaine Ho, for organizing the event with the Parents' Association.  Thanks to all for making this hands-on community service event another great success!

Heifer International

In December, MSM and CUMC held a Celtic Christmas concert, featuring the group "Interlace".  Together we raised $723 for Heifer International, providing life-changing animals for people in developing countries.

Book Drive: Give a Book, Change a Life

During our book fair in November, MSM families collected new and gently-used children’s books to benefit Reach Out and Read Virginia, a nonprofit organization that promotes early literacy by providing free, developmentally and culturally appropriate books to children as a routine part of their pediatric primary care. Reach Out and Read Virginia gives priority to clinics serving children in low-income communities, so the books we collected will go directly to the Inova Cares Clinic for Children in Falls Church, where an MSM parent is one of the providers.

Last year we provided more than 400 books, and this year's collection exceeds that number - 532!  Eleven big boxes!  For more information, please visit www.rorva.org or www.reachoutandread.org.

Student Council – Cupcake Walk and Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF:

Congratulations to Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Smith and the MSM Student Council, and all the students who brought in their orange Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF boxes after Halloween! "Thank you for helping support UNICEF with the Montessori Student Council Club (M.S.C.C.) Cupcake Walk at the Fall Festival! It was a great time for everybody who participated.  We raised $175 from just the Cupcake Walk! All money will be donated to UNICEF and will be part of our goal to raise $1,000 through Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF.  This means that with the money we all raised at the Fall Festival, we can provide malaria protection for 100 kids ($100), measles protection for 200 kids ($60), and a year's worth of clean, safe drinking water for a child ($15). Imagine what they could do with $1,000! Thank you for your help with this important cause to solve some of the world's problems!" - Tucker Rook, M.S.C.C. President

Update: the MSM community met the M.S.C.C. goal and raised over $1000!
