      Toddlers playing with outdoor blocks

      PRE-PRIMARY (TODDLER)  2 year olds

      age 24 months by mid-September - 36 months

Step 1: Attend a School Tour:  The School Tours are held on two specific Monday mornings prior to the application deadline of December 1, 2019.  The Tour consists of a Power Point presentation in the Science Lab, a walk through the school with the members of the Admission team, an opportunity to briefly observe the working classrooms, and a follow-up session for questions and answers back in the Science Lab.

Step 2: Classroom Observation Visit: After your School Tour, schedule your Classroom Observation Visit because at MSM we believe the best way for you to select a school is to see it firsthand. Classroom Observation Visits last a minimum of thirty (30) minutes and are hosted on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings in October and November. You will be invited to spend time in a Toddler and/or Primary classroom and quietly observe the teachers and children. This process will help us each determine if our school is truly a good match for your family.

Step 3: Submit the  Application for Admission & Parent Questionnaire:  Completed and return your Application Form and Parent Questionnaire found in the Application Packet you receive at your Classroom Observation Visit along with a check for the $125 Application Fee by the Toddler Application deadline of December 1, 2019. We encourage you to submit your Application immediately following your Classroom Observation Visit in order for your child to participate in one of the Child Visit mornings. You will receive an acknowledgement by email that includes details about the next step: the individual Child Visit.

Step 4: Complete your Child Visit & Parent Interview:  Please schedule your fifteen-minute, individual Child Visit through the Admission office. The purpose of the Child Visit is to evaluate your child's developmental readiness for the program to which you are applying, to familiarize your child with the environment, and to help determine the best classroom placement for your child.  Individual Child Visits for the September 2020 school year will be held on Friday mornings in October, November, and early December.  Child Visits should be completed as soon as possible after you’ve submitted your Application. You are present during the visit.

Step 5: Parent Interview: While your child is visiting with a Toddler teacher, we will have a chance to review your application together and answer questions you may have about Montessori and MSM. This process will help us each determine if our school is truly a good match for your family. We encourage you to submit your completed Application immediately following your Classroom Observation Visit in order for your child to participate in one of the Child Visit mornings.

Step 6: Sign a Contract and remit your Enrollment Deposit:  After the school has completed its re-registration process in February, you will receive written notification of the decision made by the Admission Committee.  Notifications are sent the first week of March 2020.

      Overview

The Montessori Method is at the heart of MSM

We believe that if children love coming to school, then the possibilities are endless!  Montessori's unique style of education is more than just that - it is a way of life!  Children are given the space they need to develop at their own pace, able to move ahead or review as necessary.  Classes are multi-aged, so that children can learn in a variety of ways.  Younger children look up to the older children, and are motivated by what they are doing.  Older children, in turn, are classroom leaders and role models, and learn by teaching the younger children.  In other words, children develop in cycles of

      Novice → Apprentice → Mentor

The development of leadership skills begins from the very start!

Please see each level's individual page for more details about the program, along with a photo gallery showing many fun and meaningful activities.

      Toddlers playing with outdoor blocks

      PRE-PRIMARY (TODDLER) - 2 year olds

Our adorable two Pre-Primary (2 year old) classes are designed to allow the children full access and exploration of the environment.  The spacious environment consists of two rooms connected by a gross motor area and toilet training area.  The children have gross motor play, imaginary play, a book corner, and numerous Montessori materials that allow them to develop fine motor skills and concentration. The Toddlers also have their own playground with equipment sized for them.  The main focuses of this level are development of concentration, independence, social/emotional, language, and motor skills.  Two year olds are very capable and want to care for themselves and their environment.  The Toddler class is a lot of fun to watch and be in!

The Toddler children attend five mornings a week until noon (Extended Day and Aftercare available). We have two Toddler classes, one until noon and one until 3:30 (Aftercare available until 5:30).

      PRIMARY - 3-6 year olds

The energetic Primary (preschool/kindergarten) environment is a continuation of the Pre-Primary, and is divided into four main categories: Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, and Mathematics.  In addition to these curricular areas are also Science, Geography, Cultural Studies, Music, Art, and Gross Motor development.

The three and four year old children attend five mornings a week until noon (Extended Day and Aftercare available until 5:30).  Children may stay for the full-day in their Montessori classroom if they will be turning five during the school year.  Kindergarten students are the leaders of the Primary environment.  We have five Primary classes.

      ELEMENTARY - 6-12 year olds

Our vibrant Elementary community benefits from building on the work completed at the primary level, using dynamic manipulatives to materialize abstract principles.  These manipulative materials help the students understand the "why" in how the world works, and helps them move from concrete to abstract understanding.  The rich curriculum includes Mathematics, Language Arts (reading, grammar, writing, spelling, creative writing), Science, Geography, History, and Character Development.  Students take Standardized Assessments twice per year as one method of determining student progress.

Students attend five full-days a week (Aftercare available until 5:30).  We have two Lower Elementary (ages 6-9) classes, and one Upper Elementary (ages 9-12) class.  The three classes often work together and collaborate on projects, creating a strong environment for social development.
